The Blessed Sacrament Vocation Club (BSVC) is the vocation arm of the Blessed Sacrament Congregation. It was the late Fr. Honorio ‘Nory’ Vasquez, SSS who conceived of gathering young men who have the desire to serve the Lord as priests or religious someday. He thus founded the BSVC on July 16, 1978 .
Recalling its humble beginning, this group started with twelve members (likened to the 12 Apostles) and had their first meeting on the said date with Fr. Nory and some SSS religious. From this first gathering, these young men eagerly faced the challenges of the club that brought them spreading the news around – to their schoolmates, friends and families. The rest as they say is history. The club grew gradually in terms of membership and up to now continues to guide young men in their search for their vocation in life.
Different BSVC chapters were formed in the provinces in its early years. Some of these chapters are in: Pagadian, Dapitan, Cagayan de Oro, Davao in Mindanao; Tacloban and Tagbilaran in Visayas; and Bicol and Pampanga in Luzon . The latest chapter that will be formally established soon is De La Salle University-Dasmarinas in Cavite.. All provincial chapters are either based in schools or parishes. BSVC-Manila is now the national office and continues to be the center of activities and communications among the different chapters. The members of the different BSVC chapters meet regularly.
Once a month, the members in Manila gather together for their regular meeting, sponsor the Vocation Mass at Sta. Cruz Church at 3:30 p.m.and welcome new members. In this way interaction among them is strengthened and knowledge of one another enhances their fraternal relationship which will help them discern their vocation in life. Aside from the monthly gathering, many other activities are done by the BSVC like recollections and retreats, pilgrimages, outings and other recreational activities. For their continued formation, an SSS religious is asked to give them talks about vocation and about the congregation and its founder.
All these endeavors make the members responsible and mature persons who are putting their share in building God’s Eucharistic Kingdom here on earth.
A good number of the BSVC members are now with SSS while others entered other congregatons/orders or joined their respective archdiocese/diocese. Some also found their vocation in married life and are now successful in their careers.
Indeed, being a BSVC member will definitely guide the member in his discernment. The members do not really have to be priests or religious for the Blessed Sacrament Congregation alone but also for other religious orders/congregations as well as for the archdiocese/diocese. In the process, married life and single blessedness are other options for members to consider.
